DNS Service: Zone Builder redesigned

One of the zone editing tools, Zone Builder, was nearly completely redesigned. The motivation behind this was to make it look better, feel better, and throw in a few conveniences that were sadly lacking. So far the new zone builder has only been implemented for master zones. Reverse zones still use the old design until I get the new design implemented for them as well.

The new Zone Builder has the ability to create, edit, and delete multiple records at a time. This will hopefully put it on par with the convenience Zone Editor can have. In addition I've added line numbers which will make interpreting error messages a bit more convenient. The edit record links also changed in purpose. Clicking on a link for an associated record will bring up a very newbified way of looking at the record data. For example you will have a much easier time modifying the SOA record since all the data fields are named. Lastly, the master Zone Builder now supports SRV and PTR records.

Ok, I've released the reverse zone builder. It sports several coding techniques to decrease code size and increase efficiency. Now I need to go tweak the master zone builder to use the same techniques. Basically, everything appears to be working, but I'm still tweaking things to please me.

Still tweaking zone builder. As I was adding the optimizations to the master zone builder that I had added to the reverse zone builder, I went and added yet more code size/efficiency optimizations that I need to translate back over to the reverse zone builder. *sigh* So I'll be doing that shortly. But that isn't why I'm posting again. I recieved the suggestion to add a means of creating a single record using the same newbified interface that the edit links provide. I liked the suggestion, and after a couple of days thinking on how to work it into the interface, I've done it. Now, you no longer have to be a dns expert to add the more unusual records like LOC and SRV.

This news actually came a little late. I've pretty much finished tweaking Zone Builder. The last thing I added was a embedded google map to the LOC record editor so that you can quickly navigate your way to the proper latitude/longitude coordinates. You can do this to verify your coordinates are correct, or to extract the coordinates from the map into your LOC record.

If you don't have javascript enabled, this feature will not be available and it will be as if it didn't even exist.
